"(Light) Weapons & Warfare Revisions"

Firstly, all combat revolves around Shields, Suspensors and FTL travel. FTL travel is basically cut off to everyone but those who are able to afford it, meaning that space combat largely revolves around maybe a brief skirmish before immediately devolving into a race to get on-world, as ships lack the ability to take advantage of shields or anything like that due to their heavy reliance on suspensors, meaning that they are very vulnerable and are either glass cannons or transports, given that the only way to get to a planet is through ITC-sanctioned travel, most combat in space involves blockade running or invasions, rarely would the ITC sponsor two opposed groups to fight each other on equal terms. Shields are incredibly resource-intensive and highly radioactive, meaning that it is extremely uncommon that infantry would have access to their own shields, instead, shields are reserved for defensive fortifications, they force all combat to revolve around essentially siege-style warfare (think the Battle of Naboo or Hoth in Star Wars), and given that shields cannot be used with Suspensors given that should their fields cross they will cause an implosion in the Suspensor-generator, this forces militaries to use tech like Ornithopters and Walkers, as these can carry shields, but have the major downside of being much more complex and resource-intensive than any old suspensorcraft, shields - of course - have to be able to not try to deflect terrain, so that means that anything which might qualify as terrain, such as a walker, can cross through. Suspensors are obviously infinitely superior as weapons of war in almost every way to Walkers or Ornithopters, but they just can't be as well armored as them, meaning they are only used defensively when one is assured that shields will not present a danger.

For the actual fighting, it boils down to a few things, starting off we have ranged weapons, for vehicles this includes missiles, which we know well today I really hope it doesn't need an explanation, then we have Hail weapons, which are quite literally boxes that electromagnetically launch a bunch of bullets super fast at the same time, look it up, these are excellent anti-infantry weapons as even though they won't pierce armor, they can easily get into the gaps, then we have high-yield Ray weapons, these fire particle beams in long (3-5 seconds) durations in order to easily get through armor, these are fucking hard to take but take a long time to recharge.

In terms of infantry, we get a shit-ton of stuff, there are of course, low-yield rayguns, which fire for extremely brief durations (less than a second), and are extremely dangerous to the enemy, they require a backpack to charge, which they will be disconnected from when reloading and/or not in-use to avoid potential unwanted firing, then they must be reloaded after each shot with Particle cartridges, then allowed to cool, then to be recharged, all of which may take a matter of around 30-seconds, these standard rayguns are given primarily to line-troops. A weapon reserved for more elite troops, including cavalry and people defending important positions like artillery, these are low-yield fast-charging rayguns, these basically just can fire and reload in less than 15 seconds, and are awesome, their only flaws are that they are ridiculously maintenance-heavy since they can easily overheat, even if they are expressly designed to cool as efficiently as possible, requiring constant barrel changes, and the backpacks they're attached to can get incredibly hot and even potential burn themselves out. And above these we have high-yield rayguns, I stole this idea, but they're gonna be called lances, because they're very awkward to hold and require someone to either be mounted or stationary, they are reloaded the same way, but they fire for a duration of 1-2 seconds, meaning that they fucking hurt and are basically anti-armor weapons. Lances take around a minute to reload and fire as alongside all the regular reloading, they burn-out their barrels every shot, meaning that they must be replaced every time, and they are fucking heavy. The next category of ranged-weapon is the Bolt weapon, which fires what is literally a Progweapon attached to a rocket fired from a gun, think of it as similarly effective to a medieval crossbow, since the only way in this universe to use conventional bullets on armor is when it's fired in a hailstorm, and infantry can't reasonably do that, so instead they extend the range of their melee weapons with the chance of them basically drilling into the target that they hit with the rocket propelling them further.

Finally we have melee weapons, firstly of course are the Progweapons, these are basically regular swords, knives, axes and spears, but they vibrate super fucking fast using the same basic principles as Ornithopters, meaning that they can potentially get through armor. A unique form for the Progweapon is how polearms are designed, they are often telescoping, as it makes transportation easier. Alongside Progweapons we have Paraweapons, which rely on a high-yield electrical charge to stun or kill, they are used mostly on blunt weapons, and often use in hybrids with progweapons on polearms.

And of course, we have the armor, armor on infantry is made of a cool futuristic plastic that is better than steel, that's it, it stops bullets and needs to be countered, now if it weren't for shields warfare would basically just be suspensorcaft zipping around a million miles an hour and nuking everything.

"This is a very rough concept for the CUAN, I made it look cool, it’s basically taking Samurai style armor and modernizing it completely, and then I just took a European style military uniform and made it extremely simple and sleek, then I drew a Katana but added a bunch of bullshit to make it look like it’s powered (bc it’s a Progweapon), and then the Lasgun is the big ugly Lewis Gun rip off (Edit: in the case of specifically CUAN security, they only use the breastplate and part of the helmet (looks like a PASGT), because the security forces, or the Royal Guards, are mostly ceremonial, mercenary companies might use more of the armor though)"

"Worldbuilding restart!

So if you're the one to two people who ever read my OG posts, you prolly know the baseline of the lore, I am lightly modifying it to be a bit better now.

My idea behind the setting is to basically transplant modern-ish global relations into the far future, to detach it from today as a method of showing its true nature as clearly as possible, it is decidedly un-marxist of me to not have the primary mode of production advance in an interstellar society, but it is a sacrifice for the sake of having a good allegory.

Firstly the basics: At some point in the far future (between 400 and 1000 years from today), humanity has developed the technology necessary for Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel, but this technology was patented and belongs solely to a megacorporation which is called the Interstellar Trade Corporation (ITC). The ITC has the monopoly on all trade between planets as traders must pay for their FTL carriers to travel where they wish, this also heavily limits warfare between different organisations as it prevents them from simply travelling to other planets and invading with passing through a "neutral" body. Within the Known Universe the single largest human organisation is the Solar Union, initially formed out of old NATO and EU powers from Earth, it has since come to represent the single vastest and power ever conceived in human history. The Union is made up of a wide variety of competing factions all wishing to become dominant in order to increase their own wealth, all member-states are allowed small security forces and to employ independent mercenaries, but the only body which can legally use a standing military is that of the President and their Cabinet. The holders of this position depend on who owns the majority share in the ITC, as this allows them to use FTL effectively freely, meaning that they have nearly absolute theoretical power. The reason why other members cannot have their own standing armies is because firstly, the government and many other member states which may wish to seize assets will crush them, and secondly the monetary capacity to maintain consistent supplies for a standing army is very very difficult due to the cost of FTL, meaning that anything beyond a security force is usually more of a waste than it would be worth.

Among the major powers of the SU is the Commonwealth of United Albion and Nihon, it is a constitutional monarchy which formed out of a merger between the UK and Japan, and in a way not dissimilar to that of the Austro-Hungarian Empire it is a dual state. This member is only so powerful because it has found a loophole in its system, it has no official standing army, but a wide variety of mercenary companies who are nearly entirely loyal to it and it alone. It gained its wealth which supports these mercenary armies through massive conquests long in the past when it's constituent governments were two of the highest shareholders in the ITC, which pushed the union that was formalized through a marriage between the Yamato and Windsor dynasties. The CUAN lost a large amount of its power and wealth in the course of the past few centuries, but it remains a serious threat due to it being the only organization in the SU to possess a permanent settlement on Elysium; a planet which had its terraforming process partially fail due to a miscalculation in an ITC terraforming drone centuries earlier. This failure meant that the planet is most certainly habitable, but the atmosphere is absolutely fucked, it's covered in weird storms that basically destroy any thing - especially technology - that passes through, and it also makes long distance communications and sensor usage nearly impossible on-surface. Immediately after the failed terraforming, Elysium had a massive generation ship, the Hiawatha, crash into it due to the atmospheric storm disabling most of its electronics. Centuries later, the survivors had formed a society whose mode of production was "less advanced" than that of the rest of humanity, this is not to say regression, but that the contemporary technology that they had could not either survive long enough and/or be fixed/copied reasonably on-world, as the technology necessary to do so was no longer functional or available to do so. Due to the terraforming process and lack of any historical native lifeforms, the planet has no fossil fuels and within the brief time since it has had lifeforms not enough has occured to allow fossil fuels to exist, this means that the people on the planet could not get any power source to reasonably begin proper industrialisation, meaning that they would be operating technologically in the 1600s to 1800s. The other unique feature of Elysium is its extremely unique amount of rare Earth minerals necessary for the production of FTL, shield and suspensor technology (They rely on the same source, which is also why if a suspensor comes across a shield, the suspensor's generator will implode, also they are highly radioactive, meaning a single individual cannot use them unless in a vehicle or some kind of covered projector). This means that the CUAN's singular access to the planet means that they have an extremely high influence on the FTL, Shield and Suspensor markets, both of which essentially supply the entire SU economy. Within the CUAN, people of Japanese descent were historically heavily discriminated against by the more powerful Anglos, and they even had a brief civil war which resulted in the near-end of the discrimination. Among these Japanese people were a large nationalist and ethno-centric sect known as Shinkokuists, who believe that there should be a pure-Japanese only nation-state, and they - through a long process of terrorist attacks and other awful stuff - managed to make it so that land would be on Elysium (Thinly veiled allegory to Zionism).

Though the Elysians were once of many nations, they have since been so thoroughly exterminated and displaced that they are simply known as Elysians, they are highly divided amongst themselves, only united somewhat in the goal of regaining their sovereignty. The four most prominent sects are the Collaborators, most recognized through the Elysian Provisional Governing Authority, which staffs itself nearly entirely with Collaborating Elysians to essentially do the governing on behalf the CUAN and Shinkokuist settlers. Then there are the Communists, who take most heavily ideologically from Mao Zedong and Ho Chi Minh, and aim to work alongside the Nationalists to gain sovereignty and then try to then crush or assimilate the Nationalists in their efforts for both a Liberation of their nation and their people. And then there are the aforementioned Nationalists, who are made up of local disenfranchised Elysian Bourgeois, who seek to establish an independent state but do not wish to fundamentally change the system by which this state functions. And finally there are the Fundamentalists, these are Catholics who want to institute an independent Theocratic Republic, they are the second largest non-collaborative group besides the Communists, they are most closely allied to the Nationalists (all Fundamentalists are Nationalists, but not all Nationalists are Fundamentalists, although most are). The Communist org is called the "Organization for the Liberation of the Peoples of Elysium", while the Nationalist/Fundamentalist United org is called the "Popular Front for Elysian Independence".

(As a note, Ornithopters are used because they're cooler, and also because they are nearly as effective as suspensors while still being able to carry shields, same for walkers/mechs instead of wheels, except for them it's because they can pass through shields in assaults. At the same time, armor tech has reached a point where any kind of traditional bullet is useless unless it hits a gap, so modern armies use Lasweapons, which fire very slowly and are only effective against armor within 100-300 metres, this alongside the fact that there are shields means melee combat is common, so in melee combat, we have Progweapons, which essentially vibrate so incredibly fast that they can slowly break through armor if applied long enough or in the correct places.)"
